We currently have four formal music ensembles which enhance our worship experience at Aldersgate: two vocal choirs (Chancel Choir and Worship Arts Children’s Choir) and two handbell choirs (Bellissimos and Shepherd Bells).

In addition, we have numerous vocalists and instrumentalists who share their talents as soloists or in small groups, particularly during our 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning worship and during the summer months.

Worship Arts Children’s Choir

Worship Arts Children’s Choir will return in the Fall

Rehearsal time: Tuesday, 4:00-5:00 p.m. (during Worship Arts Program)

The Worship Arts Children’s Choir meets weekly from September through May, with the exemption of school vacations and holidays. They participate in Sunday Worship approximately once each month. Children, ages 4 through 5th grade, are invited to join us as we learn a Bible story using different art techniques and enjoy music through singing, playing instruments and learning hand motions to songs. This program is led by Cheryl Ortolf and Cheryl Cruickshank. Please refer to the Education Page  for additional information about the Worship Arts Program.

Chancel Choir
Rehearsal time: Tuesday, 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Sunday morning warm-up: 10:00 a.m.
Conductor: Maylis de la Fe

The Chancel Choir provides vocal music on Sunday mornings during the 10:45 a.m. worship service weekly from September through June, for both worship services on Easter Sunday, and at other special services during Christmas, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. While singers are encouraged to be present for the Tuesday evening rehearsals, those whose schedules do not allow this and feel confident to do so are welcome to participate on Sunday morning by joining us at the warm-up rehearsal at 10:00 a.m. in the choir loft.

Rehearsal time: Thursday, 6:00-6:45 p.m.
Conductor: Maylis de la Fe

The Bellissimos are an inter-generational handbell choir for youth Grades 5-12 and adults of all ages interested in developing handbell skills and learning to read music. They meet weekly from September through May or June, depending on the end of the school year activities. They participate in worship approximately every 6 weeks.

Shepherd Bells
Rehearsal time: Thursday, 7:30-8:45 p.m.
Conductor: Maylis de la Fe

The Shepherd Bells are an advanced handbell choir for adults who have enough musical background to be able to read music. Previous ringing experience is helpful but not necessary. The Shepherd Bells participate regularly in worship and for special occasions, including both worship services on Easter Sunday, and the 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. worship services on Christmas Eve. They also participate in the annual Massachusetts Spring Ring sponsored by Handbell Musicians of America, usually held in April each year.

Youth Singers, Soloists, and Instrumentalists
The special music for our worship services on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. from September through June, and during the summer months is led primarily by vocal soloists and/or instrumentalists. Musicians who are not able to commit to weekly participation in one of our regular ensembles are encouraged and welcome to enhance our music program by offering their gifts during these worship services.
