Faith Works – 2017

Adult Registration & Waiver Form

“Faith Works”- May 13th, 2017!

What is it?  “Faith Works” is day of mission, created to assist the elderly and needy families in our communities with various projects and tasks!  Each of us has the opportunity to bring our talents and time to this day of out-reach and fellowship!  Once again, we will be participating with West Chelmsford United Methodist Church, Westford United Methodist Church and Centerville United Methodist of Lowell.

If I need help, who do I call?  The Faith Works Committee is in the process of collecting assistance requests from elderly couples and individuals in need.  These requests are primarily managed through local social service agencies representing senior centers from the towns of Chelmsford, Westford, Tyngsborough and Lowell.  However, church members can submit request directly to committee representatives as well.  The number of requests serviced will depend upon how many volunteers are able to set this day aside to assist!  We’ve been able to complete between 30 and 40 service requests each year and have met capacity in almost every case.

Can youth participate?  Once again, youth ages 14 and older are eligible to participate in this year’s event!

What will we do?  The types of projects include yard cleanup, home repairs, painting, small construction projects and even furniture moving.  What we sign up for will depend upon the pool of talent we have.  Each year we have up to 16 teams of 4 and roughly 36 jobs, so each team has 2 jobs.  The length of time on the job will depend on the difficulty; however, most teams wrap up the day within 5 to 6 hours.  Another very important and meaningful benefit is time spent with an elderly client.  The simple task of outreach and fellowship and simply visiting during the day’s activities is sometimes more valuable than the work itself.

Again, if you are interested in helping out on this day or need more information, call Greg Piper at 978-985-6535 or Lori Evans Missions/ Faith Works Coordinator at 978-319-5690.
